What you can expect to see...
ROMAN AQUEDUCT:
Originally over a 1 km long, it was completed during the reign of the Roman Emperor Valens. It carried water right up until the 19th century. The water came from the third and fourth hills of Constantinople and it was stored in the famous reservoir "Basilica Cistern". At the tallest point it is just over 29 meters high.
HAGHIA SOPHIA:
A masterpiece of Byzantine Architecture, the structure became the model for the Mosques of Constantinople. It was built in 4th century BC, and at the time it had the largest dome in the world.
HIPPODROME:
The original structure was turned into a stadium capable of seating a hundred thousand spectators. Spectators would watch horse and chariot races, gladiators battle to the death, and often ths was the place where social displeasure was given voice.
BLUE MOSQUE:
Some consider this one of the greatest pieces of Islamic architecture. The minarets and domes puncture the skyline of the city. It was purposefully constructed to face Haghia Sophia to show that any Islamic architect could rival any Christian architect.
GRAND BAZAAR:
One of the largest covered markets in the world- 58 streets and 4000 shops! This bazaar is well-known for jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops. Daily it has over 400,000 visitors and it is renowned world wide as one of the most exquisite places to shop.
