Olympia Greece was home to the Greek Olympic games for over a millennium. It is probably one of the most important and interesting archeological site in Greece- if not the world!

What you can expect to see on this half day tour of Olympia...

Excavations started in 1875, and have been ongoing ever since. This site has brought to light some of the most fascinating cultural findings of the ancient Hellenic world. At the archeological site, visitors will have the chance to see: The Ancient Stadium, The Temple of Hera, The Phillapeum, The Temple of Zeus, The Phidias workshop, The Palaestra, The Leonideum. The ancient race track of Olympia was made of clay and stretched over 600 feet. Interestingly enough, the ancient lineal measurement was by the foot (pous or podos). The Temple of Zeus was the largest doric temple in the Peloponnese. Its purpose was to house the gold and the ivory statue of Zeus.

The Archaeological Museum of Olympia is one of the most important museums in Greece. The museum exhibition houses findings from the excavations in the sacred precinct of the Altis, dating back to prehistoric times and to the Early Christian period. Visitors can also expect to see a rich collection of sculptures, bronze, and the vast collection of terracotta.

The town of Olympia offers a great chance to shop and dine. Visitors will have a chance to explore the town and shop for jewelry and souvenirs. The town is located about a 5-10 minute walk from the ancient site.

The port offers some delicious fresh seafood. This is a great opportunity for visitors to try some local food before returning onto the ship.
